Why are some response statistics displayed as bar charts?

Radio buttons, check boxes, and pull-down menus elicit responses that can be aggregated and displayed in the form of a bar chart. Single- and multi-line text boxes, however, collect free-form responses that cannot be automatically quantified and displayed as bar charts.

Why do certain questions have a higher number of responses than the number of participants?

Sometimes you may notice that the number of responses to a question exceeds the number of survey participants. This can occur only with check box questions, because each checked box is counted as a separate response.
